Itanagar: In a strategic push to strengthen India’s defence posture along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China, Lieutenant General Abhijit S Pendharkar, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Indian Army’s Spear Corps, undertook a comprehensive review of frontline operational readiness in Arunachal Pradesh this week.
According to defence spokesperson Lt Col Mahendra Rawat, the high-level assessment on Wednesday focused on the deployment of advanced surveillance systems and combat enablers in high-altitude terrain.
Special emphasis was laid on the integration of drone technology and other modern reconnaissance tools to enhance situational awareness along the sensitive border region.
Lt Gen Pendharkar praised the troops for their exceptional professionalism, morale, and resilience in navigating the region’s unforgiving terrain and extreme weather conditions.
His visit aligns with the Army’s ongoing efforts to modernise infrastructure and adapt cutting-edge technologies to improve border surveillance and operational efficiency.
The inspection also covered the performance of specialised equipment and support systems, particularly designed for remote and rugged locations where conventional logistics can be a challenge.
Since taking over command of the Spear Corps in August 2024, Lt Gen Pendharkar — a seasoned officer with more than 30 years of service, including extensive experience in counter-insurgency operations — has prioritised the use of advanced technology and modern warfare capabilities.
As part of his visit, the Corps Commander also paid tribute to fallen soldiers by laying a wreath at a local war memorial, underscoring the Army’s enduring commitment to honouring its martyrs.

Tasked with defending India’s northeastern frontier, the Spear Corps continues to play a pivotal role amid complex regional dynamics.
With tensions persisting along the LAC and internal unrest such as the ongoing ethnic strife in Manipur, the Corps is steadily adapting its defence strategies to meet both conventional and emerging security challenges.
