Tura: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma underscored the state government’s commitment to education during the Education Conclave held in Tura.
The event brought together stakeholders, government officials, and education experts to discuss strategies for improving the quality of education in Meghalaya.
A significant highlight of the conclave was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Mothers’ Union Tura for the management of 20 Government Lower Primary (LP) Schools.
The collaboration aims to enhance learning outcomes through community engagement and shared responsibility.
“We are keen to work in collaboration with the community to improve education standards,” the chief minister said, emphasising the importance of partnerships in driving educational reforms.
Education Minister Rakkam A. Sangma, Vice-Chancellor of Captain Williamson Sangma State University Dr. Vasanthi Vijaykumar, and other senior officials were also present at the event.
The conclave marked the launch of several key initiatives, including the Meghalaya School Quality Assessment and Accreditation Framework (MSQAAF) and the CM IMPACT Meghalaya Learning Enhancement Programme (M-LEP).
Educational tablets were distributed to students with special needs to further inclusivity in learning.
Highlighting the state’s demographic potential, the chief minister described Meghalaya’s young population as both a challenge and an opportunity.
He stressed the importance of equipping youth with quality education and skills to harness the demographic dividend effectively.
“Our interventions aim to channel the positive energy of our youth,” Sangma said, citing efforts like renovating government schools, establishing the Captain Williamson Sangma State University, and investing in sports and music infrastructure.

The chief minister urged stakeholders to collaborate in addressing challenges within the education sector, reaffirming the government’s dedication to making education a cornerstone of development in Meghalaya.
The conclave served as a platform for brainstorming and collective problem-solving, with a shared focus on transforming the state’s education landscape.
