Guwahati: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave alert for Assam, with temperatures expected to remain significantly above normal for the next 2-3 days.

According to the IMD’s latest report, several key locations across the state, including Guwahati, Dibrugarh, Tezpur, and Jorhat, experienced exceptionally high maximum temperatures on June 10, 2025, far exceeding their seasonal average.

Guwahati: 37.3°C (4.8°C above normal)

Dibrugarh: 37.7°C (6.2°C above normal)

Tezpur: 37.5°C (5.9°C above normal)

Silchar: 37.0°C (5.0°C above normal)

Dhubri: 36.1°C (4.8°C above normal)

Jorhat: 37.6°C (5.0°C above normal)

North Lakhimpur: 38.0°C (6.2°C above normal)

The IMD forecasts that the maximum temperatures in Assam will continue to be 3°C to 5°C higher than normal, with no significant change expected over the next few days.

This weather condition is likely to result in hot weather throughout the region, making prolonged exposure to the sun hazardous.

The IMD has advised the public to take precautions against the heat, particularly vulnerable groups such as infants, the elderly, pregnant women, and those with pre-existing health conditions.

Prolonged exposure to high temperatures could lead to heat exhaustion, heat stroke, and other heat-related illnesses.

To mitigate the effects of the heatwave, the IMD advises the public to follow these essential guidelines:

Dress Appropriately: Wear light, loose-fitting cotton clothes to help your body stay cool.

Protect Your Head: Use a hat or umbrella when outdoors, particularly during peak heat hours.

Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you don’t feel thirsty.

Limit Outdoor Exposure: Farmers and outdoor workers should avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during the hottest parts of the day.

Vehicle Safety: Never leave children or pets in parked vehicles, as temperatures inside can rise rapidly to dangerous levels.

Event Organizers: Those planning public rallies and gatherings are advised to monitor heat conditions closely during the day to ensure participant safety.
