Shillong: Eugene Niangti, a prominent motocross racer from Meghalaya, was allegedly assaulted by an intoxicated tourist from Uttar Pradesh at a recreational park in Ri-Bhoi district, officials reported on Monday.
The incident occurred on Saturday when the tourist, who was part of a group visiting the park, reportedly caused damage to a section of the park’s haunted house attraction.
When Niangti confronted the individual, he was verbally abused and physically attacked.
Niangti sustained minor injuries during the altercation but chose not to file a police complaint.
Speaking about the incident, he said, “The man was drunk and aggressive. Though I was hurt, I decided not to press charges since he was a visitor.”
Following the disturbance, the tourist and his group were asked to vacate the park. They left the premises without further incident.
Ri-Bhoi District Superintendent of Police, VS Rathore, confirmed that police have taken note of the situation and are currently investigating.
