Itanagar: The Arunachal Pradesh Wado-Kai karate team delivered an impressive performance at the 7th All India Wado-Kai National Karate Championship, securing a remarkable 17 medals.
The team’s haul included 8 gold, 5 silver, and 4 bronze medals, showcasing the talent and dedication of its athletes.
The championship, from 31 May to 1 June, was held in Darjeeling, West Bengal.
Congratulating the team, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu posted on X, “Our Wado-Kai Karate Team has made the state shine at the 7th All India Wado-Kai National Championship in Darjeeling — bringing home a whopping 17 medals!”
John Dodum bagged a gold in kumite and a silver in kata, while Ekhya Riang shone in the junior category with a kumite gold and a kata silver.
Takar Guha also secured a silver in kumite and a gold in kata.
Ajay Rotom delivered a stellar performance, bagging two gold medals in both kumite and kata.
Other notable medalists included Kyaling Nilo, who clinched a gold in kumite, and Sadu Jeram, who took home a gold in kumite and a bronze in kata in the junior category.
In the senior division, Likha Taka secured a bronze in kumite and a gold in kata, while Bamang Niglar earned a silver in kumite and a bronze in kata. Kunal Das rounded out the medal count with a silver in kumite.

Yarda Niki, President of both the Arunachal Wado-Kai Association and the Arunachal Pradesh Amateur Karate-Do Association, extended his congratulations to the players, expressing immense pride in their outstanding achievements.
