Guwahati: Three persons have been taken into custody by Assam police in connection with the brutal killing of a Royal Bengal Tiger in Dusutimukh village in Golaghat district on Thursday.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Trinay Mili, Panika Mili, and Dhurba Mili. They are being interrogated at Dergaon Police Station as part of the ongoing investigation.

A mob of 1,000 people killed and dismembered a male Royal Bengal tiger on Thursday. The carcass was found at the Tinighariya Dukhutimukh village.

According to sources, the tiger was roaming in the village area for the past one month which created panic among villagers.

The villagers have reportedly claimed that it had killed a man named Gopinath Mili and attacked livestock in recent weeks.

The villagers, who were armed with machetes, spears, and iron rods, chased the animal into a wooded area and hacked it to death.

As per reports, some body parts of the tiger were cut off and taken away by miscreants before the authorities arrived at the site of the incident.

Forest and police officials later recovered the tiger’s body, which was then taken to the Golaghat Forest Range Officer’s office for a post-mortem and cremation.

Golaghat DFO Gunadip Das said, “The tiger’s death was caused by sharp weapon wounds. Over a hundred people are suspected of being involved in the killing. A case has also been registered, and further investigation is underway.”
