Dibrugarh (Assam): Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal chaired a high-level review meeting with the Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation (DMC) to assess the progress of ongoing development projects in the city.
Addressing the meeting, Sonowal — who also represents Dibrugarh in the Lok Sabha — underscored the importance of transforming the historic Upper Assam town into a modern, well-planned, and visually vibrant urban centre.
He called for swift and efficient implementation of infrastructure upgrades aimed at enhancing the quality of life for residents.
Among the key issues discussed were flood control measures, particularly through strengthening and expanding the city’s drainage network, road improvement works, and beautification initiatives.
The minister urged civic officials and elected representatives to ensure timely completion of all projects under execution.
The review meeting was attended by Assam Minister and Dibrugarh MLA Prasanta Phukan, Mayor Saikat Patra, Deputy Mayor Ujjal Phukan, along with senior officials and other local representatives.
Sonowal reiterated the Centre’s commitment to supporting urban transformation in Dibrugarh, and stressed that civic development must keep pace with the aspirations of the people.
