Imphal: A fourth-semester nursing student from Meghalaya was found dead in her hostel at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences in Manipur’s capital Imphal on Wednesday, officials said.
The deceased has been identified as 21-year-old Abiel Sachiana from Rengram in West Garo Hills.
She was found hanging in her hostel, police said.
Sources said that concern arose among fellow students when Abiel Sachiana Ch Marak failed to attend the routine morning roll call.
This led to a check of her hostel room, where she was found unresponsive. The RIMS administration promptly notified the authorities.
Officers from Lamphel Police Station, accompanied by forensic experts from the Manipur Forensic Sciences Department, arrived at the scene to begin an investigation.
