Guwahati: In recognition of its exemplary performance in peacekeeping and humanitarian assistance in Assam’s Dima Hasao district, 32 Assam Rifles was awarded the prestigious ‘Unit Citation’ award by Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on May 9 (Friday) at Raj Bhawan in Guwahati.
The battalion had operated in a high-intensity counterinsurgency environment and simultaneously carried out humanitarian efforts in Dima Hasao.
The 32 Assam Rifles played a pivotal role during Operation Remal Rahat, which was launched to rescue and support locals affected by the devastating Cyclone Remal.
The unit also acted as first responders during the Umrangso coal mine rescue operation and the derailment of the Lokmanya Tilak Express at Dibalong by aiding in civilian evacuation and providing critical medical support.
The unit has been at the forefront of community development initiatives such as organising youth engagement programs, offering scholarships to students from Dima Hasao for higher education, among others.
The battalion has been actively involved in conducting medical camps, blood donation drives, and emergency relief distributions.
