Arunachal Pradesh to erect war memorials at sites of historical battles

ITANAGAR: The Arunachal Pradesh government is planning to construct war memorials at notable sites of historical conflicts across the state.

Emphasising on the importance of preserving history and culture of the state, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, on Saturday, said that the government is considering erecting memorials at notable sites of historical conflicts, including the Anglo-Khamti War of 1839, Anglo-Wancho War of 1875, and the Anglo-Abor Wars of 1858, 1859, 1894, and 1911-12 against British rule, including the Anglo-Abor war site at Dambuk.

Recounting the significant role played by Arunachal’s forefathers in fighting against colonial rule, the minister stressed on the importance of maintaining unity in diversity, considering the rich cultural diversity within the state.

The deputy CM made the announcement while attending the “Ba:ne Solung Gi:Di 2023” celebration in Roing, Lower Dibang Valley district.

Addressing the gathering at the do, the deputy Chief minister also heaped praises on the political maturity and dynamic qualities of Arunachal’s young MLAs, acknowledging them as valuable assets in the state’s legislative assembly.

During the event, Mein also launched two books authored by llo Libang, titled “Pémí-Pio Bédang” and “Kéyum-Kéro”, which delve into the rhapsodies and folk tales of the Adi community.

He also extended his appreciation to the toppers of Class X and XII from Lower Dibang Valley District and commended the Adi Culture & Literary Society for their initiative to honour these achievers, which he believed would motivate them in their studies.

In response to the memorandums presented during the occasion, the Deputy Chief Minister assured the upgradation of Gi:Di Notko and the installation of High Mast lighting in selected schools within Lower Dibang Valley district.

The event also witnessed the presence of MLA Roing, Mutchu Mithi, Lok Sabha MP Tapir Gao, MLA Dambuk cum Chief Patron of the Festival Gum Tayeng, former Minister Roding Pertin, ZPC LDV Toni Borang, DC Roing Soumya Saurabh (IAS), and SP Akanksha Yadav (IPS), among other dignitaries.
