India secures 43 medals at Asian U-15 & U-17 Boxing Championships

Amman: Indian boxers have confirmed an impressive haul of 43 medals at the inaugural Asian U-15 and U-17 Boxing Championships, with four more fighters advancing to the semifinals on Day 7 of the competition.

The event is being held under the banner of the newly recognised Asian Boxing Confederation affiliated with World Boxing.

India is now assured of at least 25 medals in the U-15 category and 18 in the U-17, with all semifinalists guaranteed a bronze.

In the U-17 boys’ division, Aman Siwach (63kg) and Devansh (80kg) delivered dominant performances, both registering Referee Stopped Contest (RSC) victories against opponents from the Philippines and Jordan, respectively.

In the girls’ category, Simranjeet Kaur (60kg) secured a commanding 5-0 win over Jordan’s Aya Alhasanat, while Himanshi (70kg) ended her bout in the opening round with an RSC against Palestine’s Farah Abou Layla.

Earlier in the tournament, U-15 boxer Nelson Khwairakpam (55kg) overwhelmed Chinese Taipei’s Wang Sheng-Yang with an RSC in the first round.

Teammates Abhijeet (61kg) and Lakshay Phogat (64kg) followed up with dominant 5-0 wins over boxers from Kyrgyzstan and Jordan, respectively.

Harsil (37kg) and Sanchit Jayani (49kg) also posted clear 5-0 victories, while Sanskar Vinod Atram (35kg) notched a 4-1 win. In a closely contested bout, Prikshit Balahra (40kg) edged past Mongolia’s Akhmyetkhan Nursalyem with a narrow 3-2 verdict.

In earlier action, Rudraksh Singh Khaidem (46kg) showcased clinical form with a 3-0 win over Kyrgyzstan’s Aidar Musaev.

Among the girls, Princi (52kg) defeated Ukraine’s Yeva Kubanova with a convincing 5-0 decision. Samruddhi Satish Shinde (55kg) stopped Ukraine’s Kseniia Savina in the third round, while Milky Meinam (43kg) outclassed Kazakhstan’s Yeldana Abdigani in a clean sweep.
