Shillong: The Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya Frontier has marked a series of significant achievements in the first quarter of 2025, reinforcing its role in safeguarding the Indo-Bangladesh border and intensifying efforts against cross-border crimes.

According to BSF officials, vigilant personnel thwarted numerous infiltration attempts and apprehended a total of 115 individuals involved in illegal cross-border activities — comprising 78 Bangladeshi nationals and 37 Indian nationals.

These arrests were made in connection with smuggling operations and unauthorised border crossings.

In addition, six touts allegedly responsible for facilitating these illegal movements were also taken into custody, enabling coordinated follow-up actions by police and other enforcement agencies.

In a strong crackdown on smuggling, BSF Meghalaya carried out a series of targeted operations, leading to the seizure of contraband and 750 cattle with an estimated value of Rs 11.70 crore.

Items confiscated included Yaba tablets, cannabis (ganja), liquor, cosmetics, clothing, and various other goods intended for illegal transport into Bangladesh.

Beyond its security mandate, BSF Meghalaya continued to demonstrate its commitment to the welfare of border communities.

During the same period, the force organized 13 blood donation camps and 22 Civic Action Programs, offering free health checkups and distributing essential supplies in remote villages along the border.

Additionally, BSF units carried out timely medical evacuations for residents in need.

To bolster cross-border coordination, BSF Meghalaya maintained active dialogue with the Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) through regular field-level meetings.

These engagements focused on enhancing mutual trust, addressing border-related challenges, and exchanging intelligence on infiltration routes and smuggling networks.

A BSF spokesperson stated that preliminary interrogation of the apprehended individuals yielded crucial leads, which have been shared with state police and other agencies to support wider investigations.

“Details of smugglers and touts are being regularly communicated to sister agencies to disrupt the networks facilitating illegal activities across the Indo-Bangladesh border,” the spokesperson added.

BSF Meghalaya reiterated its commitment to zero tolerance toward infiltration and smuggling, while continuing to strengthen border management and promote community development in frontier regions.
