Agartala: Tripura has achieved a significant milestone as Gomati district and Ganganagar block in Dhalai district were conferred the prestigious Prime Minister’s Excellence Award 2024, Chief Minister Manik Saha announced on Monday.
Gomati district was recognised under the “Holistic Development of Districts” category, an honour granted to only five districts across India.
This award acknowledges outstanding performance in 11 priority sector programmes.
Saha highlighted that the selection process was rigorous, involving multiple stages, including site visits and detailed presentations.
On his social media handle, the chief minister expressed his pride, writing, “Gomati district shines bright! Heartfelt congratulations to the people of Gomati district and District Magistrate and Collector Tarit Kanti Chakma for this remarkable achievement. This award reflects the district’s progress and dedication to excellence.”
Ganganagar block, an aspirational area in Dhalai district, also received the prestigious award.
The chief minister congratulated the people of Ganganagar and District Magistrate Saju Wahid A, who accepted the honour from Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the Civil Services Day celebrations in New Delhi.
“This achievement underscores the state government’s commitment to regional progress and showcases the unwavering dedication of the district and block to excellence,” Saha stated.
The award evaluation process involved a meticulous selection by a Screening Committee chaired by Additional Secretaries, followed by assessments from an Expert Committee headed by the Secretary of DARPG, and final recommendations by the Empowered Committee led by the Cabinet Secretary of India.

Under the Holistic Development category, the award recognises District Collectors for targeted delivery of services and a saturation approach to public welfare.
Evaluations were based on governance, qualitative impact, and quantitative outcomes.
Gomati district received the PM Excellence Award with a trophy, a scroll, and a Rs 20 lakh incentive.
This funding will be utilised for implementing development projects and addressing resource gaps to enhance public welfare initiatives.
