Guwahati: The Assam government has received the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration 2024 in the Innovation–State category for the AI attendance app —‘Shiksha Setu Axom’.
Samagra Shiksha Assam’s managing director, Dr Om Prakash, received the PM’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration from Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Monday (April 21).
The PM’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration was instituted to recognize the extraordinary and innovative work done by district organizations of central and state governments for the welfare of common citizens.
The PM’s award was presented on the occasion of the 17th Civil Services Day organized at the Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. The award is given in different categories to the states.
The Shiksha Setu Axom app connects schools in Assam with AI and data. With the help of this app, over 50 lakh school students and teachers mark their daily attendance.
This AI-based facial recognition attendance saves time, and the real-time information can be viewed by education authorities.
According to official records, more than Rs 100 crore was saved yearly on student schemes after the app was introduced.
“Assam’s #ShikshaSetu was today awarded the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi Ji. This single-point solution has streamlined student and teacher attendance and brought uniformity across schools in Assam. Congratulations to the entire team of @Samagra_Assam on achieving this feat,” CM Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote on ‘X’.
Over three lakh duplicates (ghost students) were removed after the implementation of Shiksha Setu Axom, which is used for accurate student data compilation, officials said.
It has also helped to stop unauthorized leaves by teachers.
Keeping an eye on the attendance of teachers and students is among the most important aspects of this AI-based platform available in the form of a mobile app.
