Imphal: In a significant operation amid ongoing ethnic violence in Manipur, state police have recovered 75 stolen four-wheelers and seven two-wheelers within just five days, officials reported on Tuesday.
The vehicles, snatched by anti-social elements, were retrieved during a special drive conducted between April 16 and April 20 across various locations, primarily in the valley districts.
Alongside recovering stolen vehicles, the police are intensifying efforts to curb the illegal use of tinted films, removing such films from 3,720 vehicles since January 1 across different districts.
In addition to the crackdown on vehicle theft, the police apprehended four militants belonging to the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) from Imphal East district on Monday night.
Three of the arrested individuals were allegedly involved in the abduction of two individuals for ransom near Naorem Birahari College, Khundrakpam.
The kidnapped victims were safely rescued by the authorities.
Meanwhile, the Kangpokpi district Superintendent of Police issued a stern directive warning personnel against attending meetings convened by unauthorised organisations.
This order follows a call by the Kangchup Area Protection and Development Committee (KAPDC) for a gathering of police and security personnel from Kuki villages on April 30.
Any personnel attending such meetings will face strict disciplinary action for gross service misconduct, the directive stated.
Manipur Police also appealed to the public to remain vigilant against rumours and misinformation.
Citizens are encouraged to verify any suspect videos or posts through the central control room’s rumour-free hotline.

The police cautioned that sharing fake content on social media could result in legal consequences.

This multifaceted crackdown underscores the ongoing efforts of the Manipur Police to restore law and order in the state amid challenging circumstances.
