AIZAWL: Reaffirmed his state’s commitment to support the Mizo ethnic tribes in Manipur, Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga on Wednesday said that the people of Mizoram are ready to assist their fellow brothers and sisters in Manipur.

“The government and the people of Mizoram stand fast for the kindred brothers and sisters in Manipur and will continue to extend all possible help in the future,” he said, stressing on the importance of unity among the Zo-kindred tribes, transcending political boundaries and varying names.

“The Zofate (Zo kindred tribes) living in different countries and states, though divided by political boundaries and known by different nomenclatures, should not allow the destruction of their brotherhood due to such differences,” he was quoted as saying by the local press. He also highlighted that unity as a single tribe is their only chance for survival.

The Chief Minister’s statement came after a meeting with a bunch of leaders from the neighbouring state comprising six legislators, including two ministers from Manipur, as well as representatives from various civil society organizations (CSOs) at the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) in Mizoram.

Representatives from organisations such as the Mizo People’s Convention, Kuki Students’ Organization, Hmar Inpui, Committee on Tribal Unity, Zomi Council Student Organization, and others, also participated in the meeting, the local press reported.

Earlier in August, while highlighting the vital importance of road repairs linking Mizoram to Manipur’s hill regions, Zoramthanga had reaffirmed his government’s unwavering commitment to maintaining these roadways, ensuring the uninterrupted flow of essential supplies to the tribal areas affected by the ongoing clashes in Manipur.
