Ampati: South West Garo Hills district of Meghalaya, observed National Deworming Day (NDD) on Tuesday, with events held at the block level and across schools and Anganwadi Centres.

The initiative targets children aged 1 to 19 years, aiming to improve their health and academic performance by eliminating intestinal worms.

Deworming is conducted biannually, with a follow-up mop-up round scheduled for April 22, to ensure complete coverage.

Trained teachers and Anganwadi Workers (AWWs) conducted awareness activities, emphasising the benefits of deworming in combating illness, anemia, and malnutrition, which are major factors affecting children’s mental and physical development.

The district-wide launch was officially inaugurated at Matalagre Government LP School by Dr. Noreen Sangma, Nodal Officer for Maternity and Child Health.

She was accompanied by Shirley Sangma, District Programme Manager, and other health officials, educators, ASHAs, and Anganwadi staff.
