ITANAGAR: Come October and running enthusiast would be able to participate in what would be arguably one of the most challenging high-altitude marathons in the country.

The Indian Army and the Arunachal Pradesh government are set to host the inaugural Tawang Marathon on October 1. Nestled at an average elevation of 10,000 feet above sea level, the run would mark the first time a marathon of such magnitude will grace the scenic landscapes of this Northeastern gem.

With enthusiastic participants pouring in from across the country, this event is not just a local affair. The event has garnered support and participation from the Indian Army, Indian Navy, Indian Air Force, as well as all major Central Armed Police Forces, including the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Each of these forces is sending formidable teams to compete in various categories of the Tawang Marathon, which will include full marathons, half-marathons, 10 km, and 5 km races.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu has wholeheartedly endorsed the landmark Tawang Marathon, setting an example by being its first registrant. This gesture underlines the government’s dedication to spotlighting Tawang as a premier hub for adventure sports and marathons, aiming to invigorate tourism in the region.

Inaugurated on June 20, the much-anticipated run is more than just a race; participants will have the privilege to delve into the state’s vibrant heritage, engage with its local communities, and relish the unparalleled hospitality this region is famed for.

Don’t miss this golden opportunity to be part of a historic moment, as Tawang proudly debuts its high-altitude marathon — a harmonious blend of sport, adventure, and cultural tourism in one of India’s most scenic destinations.
