Guwahati: Assam’s Kokrajhar is all set to host the 12th Baokhungri Festival at Baokhungri Hill in Harinaguri with traditional fervour.
The festival, a celebration of faith, tradition, adventure, and flavours, is scheduled to take place from April 12 to April 14.
The 3-day festival is being organized by the Tourism Department, BTC, in collaboration with Sports & Youth Affairs.
The Baokhungri festival is the biggest festival in Bodoland Territorial Region, which is held annually at Baokhungri Hill near Harinaguri in Kokrajhar.
The Bodos strongly believe that Baokhungri hill is the sacred dwelling of Sibrai (Lord Shiva) as well as some other deities.

The festival is a vibrant display of Bodo culture, featuring folk performances, indigenous sports, and local culinary delights.
A preparatory meeting was held recently at the festival venue to review the arrangements and finalize the event schedule.
Dharma Narayan Das, Executive Member of Tourism Department, Bodoland Territorial Council, said that Baokhungri Hill is ‘a hidden jewel of India’, offering unparalleled natural beauty and cultural richness.

The Baokhungri Festival will offer a wide range of attractions to the visitors, including a cultural extravaganza, competitions in folk dance and indigenous sports, hill trekking, cycling, and a marketplace for local products, alongside ethnic food stalls and paragliding.
