Aizawl: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai, on Wednesday highlighted the importance of northeastern states in shaping India’s progress, underscoring Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to prioritising the region’s development.

During an interaction in Mizoram’s Siaha district, Rai pointed to the significant developmental initiatives undertaken in the region, emphasising their visible impact.

He appealed to residents to cooperate with border security forces to ensure national security and maintain regional stability.

Addressing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the Minister reassured citizens that its focus on promoting regional languages is not aimed at imposing Hindi but rather at celebrating linguistic diversity across India.

Rai also touched upon the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), explaining that its purpose is to provide safety and citizenship to persecuted religious minorities from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan.

He reiterated India’s secular values, urging citizens to support the government’s efforts in protecting vulnerable communities.

The minister called on the public to recognise the prime minister’s developmental initiatives and actively contribute to spreading awareness about these efforts for the nation’s progress.

Mara Autonomous District Council (MADC) Chief Executive Member (CEM) M Laikaw commended Rai’s visit, viewing it as a positive step toward addressing MADC’s political aspirations, particularly regarding amendments to the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution.

Earlier, Rai met Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma in Aizawl to discuss key state issues, reaffirming the central government’s commitment to resolving regional concerns and fostering growth in the Northeast.
