Imphal: The Ministry of Home Affairs has released Rs. 217 crore during the 2024–25 fiscal year to support relief and rehabilitation efforts for people displaced by ethnic violence in Manipur since May 3, 2023, officials said on Sunday.

More than 50,000 people—men, women, and children—have taken shelter in approximately 250 relief camps across several districts after being uprooted from their homes and villages in the wake of the violence nearly two years ago.

Thousands of prefabricated homes have been built across the state to accommodate the affected families.

A senior official from the Manipur Finance Department noted that the just-concluded fiscal year saw substantial central support across multiple sectors.

In March alone, the state received Rs. 1,926 crore in central assistance through various channels, including Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS), the Scheme for Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI), and other central programs—marking the highest monthly receipt to date.

Of the total SASCI funding of Rs. 1,437 crore during the year, Rs. 869 crore was disbursed in March.

This included a special provision of Rs. 320 crore earmarked for clearing liabilities related to ongoing and recently completed Public Works Department projects.

The official further added that Manipur received Rs. 169 crore under PMAY-Grameen for rural housing, Rs. 520 crore for school education, Rs. 305 crore for healthcare, and Rs. 458 crore from the Ministry of Women and Child Development.

Notably, the state received an additional, fifth instalment under the National Health Mission for the first time—beyond the standard four.

With Manipur under President’s Rule since February 13, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the state’s 2025–26 budget in the Lok Sabha on March 10, proposing an expenditure of Rs. 35,104 crore, a rise from the revised estimate of Rs. 32,657 crore for 2024–25.
