Guwahati: With an aim to enhance industry-academia ties in Assam, Girijananda Chowdhury University (GCU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) at the university’s Azara campus.
The agreement was formalised by Nalini Kanta Buragohain, Chief General Manager (Corporate Affairs), NRL, and Prof. Dipankar Saha, Registrar, GCU, in the presence of key dignitaries.
The ceremony was attended by Bhaskar Jyoti Phukan, Managing Director, NRL; Jasoda Ranjan Das, President of the SSA Society; and Prof. Kandarpa Das, Vice Chancellor, GCU.
Addressing the gathering, Phukan emphasised the critical role of emerging technologies in addressing environmental challenges, highlighting the importance of collaborative efforts to tackle the ongoing climate crisis.
The MoU aims to strengthen the linkages between the two institutions through knowledge sharing, research, and collaborative activities.
This partnership will involve hosting joint events, fostering critical academic-industry interactions, and promoting research and studies that align with contemporary industry needs.
The collaboration is expected to provide GCU students and faculty with valuable opportunities to engage in research, attend workshops and conferences, and explore real-world challenges in the oil and gas sector.

NRL, known for its expertise in technology and business management, will contribute its practical insights to support an enriched academic environment at GCU.
Speaking on the occasion, officials noted that this partnership would help bridge the gap between theoretical learning and practical applications, creating a platform for students to gain industry exposure while advancing their careers.
Established as part of the Assam Accord of 1985, the Numaligarh Refinery in Golaghat district has been a cornerstone of industrial and economic development in the region.
The MoU with GCU marks yet another milestone in its commitment to fostering innovation and education in Assam.
