Mumbai: In a move to expand India’s digital connectivity, Jio Platforms Limited (JPL) announced a strategic agreement with SpaceX to bring Starlink’s high-speed satellite broadband services to Indian customers.
This collaboration marks a significant milestone in the evolution of internet accessibility across the country, subject to SpaceX obtaining necessary regulatory approvals to offer Starlink in India.
Under the agreement, Jio will integrate Starlink’s satellite internet solutions into its existing broadband ecosystem, enhancing connectivity options for consumers and businesses.
Customers will be able to access Starlink equipment through Jio’s retail outlets and online platforms.
Jio will also provide support for installation and activation, ensuring a seamless customer experience.
The partnership aims to combine Jio’s status as the world’s largest mobile operator by data traffic with Starlink’s position as the leading low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite constellation operator.
Together, they plan to deliver reliable broadband services even to India’s most remote and underserved regions.
“This collaboration with SpaceX reinforces Jio’s commitment to ensuring every Indian has access to affordable, high-speed broadband,” said Mathew Oommen, Group CEO of Reliance Jio.
“Integrating Starlink into Jio’s broadband ecosystem will expand our reach and empower communities and businesses, especially in challenging terrains, in this AI-driven era.”
Starlink will complement Jio’s existing offerings, such as JioFiber and JioAirFiber, by providing high-speed internet to regions that are difficult to access through traditional infrastructure.
Additionally, Jio and SpaceX are exploring other areas of cooperation to enhance India’s digital ecosystem further.
“We applaud Jio’s dedication to advancing India’s connectivity,” said Gwynne Shotwell, President and COO of SpaceX.
“We look forward to working together and receiving the necessary government approvals to bring Starlink’s services to more people, organizations, and businesses across India.”
