Agartala: In a landmark step towards enhancing accessibility and service delivery for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) in the Northeastern region, the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO), a PSU under Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, is set to establish its first Auxiliary Production Centre (AAPC) in Tripura.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Saturday laid the foundation stone of the proposed centre at Purba Laxmibill in Sepahijala District.

The ALIMCO Auxiliary Production Centre will be developed with an investment of Rs 45 crore, paving the way for a new era in the region’s assistive technology sector.

The Auxiliary Production Centre will serve the need for a dedicated production and distribution facility to efficiently cater to the Northeast.

This new initiative further aims to enhance accessibility to assistive devices while generating employment opportunities for the local population.

CM Saha said, “This initiative is a significant step towards regional empowerment and inclusivity, reinforcing central government’s commitment to serving the persons with disabilities across India. The state government has played a key role in facilitating land acquisition in Sepahijala District.”

Addressing the foundation stone laying ceremony, Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment B.L Verma said, “The proposed auxiliary production centre in Tripura would be the eighth of its kind in the country and first in the entire northeast region.”

He said that all should strive to make Divyangjan and senior citizens self-reliant to become part of the mainstream and to make the country all-inclusive.
