Imphal: The residents of Imphal West in Manipur voluntarily surrendered a significant number of weapons at the Singjamei Police Station on Saturday.
The arsenal included an SMC carbine with a magazine, a double-barrel gun, a country-made rifle with a magazine, a .32 pistol, three 36 HE hand grenades, an LMG magazine, an INSAS magazine, three rounds of AK ammunition, four stun grenades, four tear smoke grenades, five tear smoke shells, and a patka helmet.
On 24.02.2025, the following arms and ammunition were voluntarily surrendered by the public to the following places in Imphal West District as follows:
At Singjamei- PS, Imphal West District.

Besides, the residents of both Churachandpur and Imphal West districts also surrendered arms and ammunition.
The Churachandpur Police Station received an SLR 7.62mm rifle with a magazine and three .303 rifles with magazines.
Security forces have intensified search operations across vulnerable areas in the hill and valley districts to enhance security.
In a raid at Leirongthel Pitra Foothills in Thoubal District, authorities recovered an SLR rifle, four SLR magazines, 105 rounds of AK ammunition, 142 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, three rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, and three rounds of .303 ammunition.
Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla recently appealed to members of all communities to surrender looted police weapons and illegally held arms at the nearest police station.
He said if the weapons were not surrendered, strict action would follow for possession of arms.
Urging all communities in the Valley and Hills to voluntarily come forward and surrender looted and illegally held weapons, Ajay Bhalla said that returning these weapons would be a powerful gesture towards ensuring peace.

Both voluntary weapon surrenders and intensified security operations are part of ongoing efforts to curb the presence of illegal weapons and restore stability in the region.
