Guwahati: Oil India Limited Pipeline Services successfully organized the ‘Saksham Cyclothon’ on Sunday across three major cities of Assam—Guwahati, Nagaon, and Tezpur—as part of the nationwide Saksham initiative.
The event saw an overwhelming response, with over 250 participants in Guwahati and more than 100 participants each in Nagaon and Tezpur joining the ride to promote fuel conservation, sustainable mobility, and environmental awareness.
In Guwahati, the ride was flagged off by JPP Das, Executive Director- PLS, Arunjyoti Baruah, Chief General Manager ( HR&A), PLS along with Richa Chetry, a popular Assamese actress, model, and influencer, who graced the event as a special guest.
Kaushik Guha, a well-known local cycling and environmental activist, led the ride, inspiring participants to embrace cycling as a sustainable mode of transport.
On February 16, a Walkathon was also organized as part of Saksham 2025.
In Tezpur, Simanta Saikia, Vice President of the Sonitpur Cycling Association, graced the event as the chief guest, encouraging cyclists and citizens to adopt eco-friendly commuting habits.
‘Pedal for a Change’ partnered with the local cycling group ‘Miles With Cycles’ for the cyclothon who mobilized cyclists.
In Nagaon, Smarajit Ojah, Assistant Professor of the Geography Department at Nagaon Girls College, and Benris R Hrangkhol, Forester 1, Nagaon Wildlife Division, were the guests of honour.
They emphasized the importance of fuel conservation and environmental protection through cycling.
In Nagaon, Pedal for a Change partnered with the local cycling group ‘Nagaon Cyclists’ for the mobilization of cyclists.
The cyclothon in all these places was managed by Guwahati-based Cycling non-profit organisation Pedal for a Change.

Saksham (Sanrakshan Kshamta Mahotsav) is an annual awareness campaign initiated by the Ministry
of Petroleum and Natural Gas to promote fuel conservation and energy efficiency. Through
various outreach programs, including cyclothons, it encourages individuals and communities to
adopt sustainable practices for a greener future.
