Itanagar: In a significant step towards empowering artisans of the state, the Arunachal Pradesh cabinet has approved the ‘Arunachal Pradesh Handloom & Handicrafts Policy – 2024’.
The Arunachal Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Pema Khandu, held its fourth outdoor cabinet meeting ‘Cabinet Aapke Dwar’ and the first under the Pema Sarkar 3.0 tenure at the ADC headquarters in Nyapin on Monday.

Under the policy, a digital database will be created for weavers. Besides, cash awards for exceptional craftsmanship have been increased to Rs 1,00,000 and Rs 75,000 for first and second place, respectively.
The ‘Cabinet Aapke Dwar’ initiative focused on bringing governance closer to the people and facilitating grassroots engagement.
In the sports sector, the cabinet approved ‘Mission Olympics’ to nurture world-class athletes and provide elite training and expert coaching in Badminton, Skateboarding, Taekwondo, Judo, Weightlifting, and Wushu, aiming to nurture Olympic-level athletes from the state.
As the state government already declared 2024-25 as the ‘Year of Youth,’ the government approved the launch of the Arunachal Pradesh Youth Policy, 2024, focusing on education, employment, and well-being programs.
The policy outlines nine youth development goals, including holistic education and skill enhancement.
It also approved the Late Kalikho Pul Memorial Table Tennis Championship as an annual calendar event, honouring the legacy of Late Kalikho Pul, the former chief minister of Arunachal Pradesh.
Further, under the revamped Dulari Kanya Scheme, the fixed deposit for institutional births of girl children was raised from Rs 20,000 to Rs 30,000, with an additional Rs 20,000 provided for Class XI admission via direct benefit transfer.
The state approved the Arunachal Pradesh Arun Parivar Patra Authority Bill, 2025, aimed at creating a centralised family database to streamline welfare scheme delivery.

Strengthening policy-driven governance, the cabinet gave the green light for the Institute for Transforming Arunachal (ITA), a think-tank under the finance, planning and investment department. The institute will play a pivotal role in shaping Arunachal’s Vision@2047, aligning with India’s long-term development goals.
Tax reforms took centre stage as the cabinet approved amendments to the Arunachal Pradesh Goods and Services Tax (GST) Act, 2017, to be tabled in the upcoming state legislative assembly session.
