Itanagar: The National Commission for Women (NCW) has summoned YouTuber Elvish Yadav for allegedly making racist remarks against Miss Arunachal Pradesh and Bigg Boss 18 contestant Chum Darang.
The NCW has summoned Yadav to appear on February 17.
The NCW took cognizance after the social media influencer made derogatory remarks about Chum Darang on his podcast.
He criticized her name and nationality, receiving backlash for his comments.
Elvish also disparaged her involvement in the film Gangubai Kathiawadi, making obscene remarks about her.
He said, “Karanveer ko pakka COVID tha kyunki Chum kisko pasand aati hai bhai, itna taste kiska kharab hota hai! Aur Chum ke toh naam mein hi ashleelta hai… Naam Chum aur kaam Gangubai Kathiawadi mein kiya hai (Karanveer must have definitely had COVID because who would like Chum, bro? Who has such bad taste! And even Chum’s name itself is vulgar… Her name is Chum, and she worked in Gangubai Kathiawadi).”
These comments led to a major outrage on social media.
Chum Darang later responded sharply to the comments, denouncing Yadav’s actions. In a statement, she emphasized the harm done by such remarks and conveyed her regret.
She underlined that Elvish’s statements blurred the line between comedy and hatred and that the insults targeted not only her race but also the effort she has put into her career.
