Shillong: Meghalaya BJP delegation, led by MLA Sanbor Shullai and state president Rikman Momin, recently met with Union Minister for Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju to present a proposal for upgrading Red Cross Hospital in Laban, Shillong.
The proposal aims to replace the existing dilapidated Assam-type structure with a modern building, offering state-of-the-art amenities to improve healthcare services.
Shullai, representing the South Shillong constituency, emphasised the importance of the hospital upgrade for the thousands of Below Poverty Line (BPL) families in the area who rely on it for quality healthcare.
The MLA also highlighted his personal connection to the hospital, stating that it was where he was born and expressing his vision for it to become one of the best maternity hospitals in Shillong.
During the meeting, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju showed a positive response and expressed keen interest in the proposed project.

The detailed project report (DPR) for the upgrade has already been shared with the Department of Minority Affairs, and the minister assured that the department would review it post-elections.
The delegation also plans to meet Chief Minister Conrad Sangma in the coming days to urge him to prioritise the proposal and send it to the Minority Affairs Department.
Shullai reiterated that turning the hospital into a modern healthcare facility is a personal commitment he aims to fulfil during his current tenure.
In conclusion, the BJP MLA called for a focus on delivering results, emphasizing that “work more and talk less” should be the guiding principle in politics.
