Shillong: Following the death of a 93-year-old milkman in Meghalaya’s Ri Bhoi district, the Assam Rifles has stated that it will cooperate with the police investigation.
Vivek Singh, the Superintendent of Police for the district, confirmed that the vehicle involved in the incident has been seized and a case has been filed.
The incident took place on Tuesday when Jonga Bahadur, the elderly milkman, was crossing the road in Nongpoh town and was struck by a vehicle from an Assam Rifles convoy.
After the accident, the convoy personnel rushed the victim to Nongpoh Civil Hospital, and later to the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences, where he succumbed to his injuries.
A spokesperson for the Assam Rifles assured, “We are extending our full cooperation to the state police in this case involving one of our vehicles.”
The victim’s body was returned to his family on Wednesday after a post-mortem, police officials reported.
