Shillong: The Budget session of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly is set to begin on February 28 and will continue until March 13.

Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma will present the state budget on March 5.

The decision was finalized during the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting held on Thursday

Assembly Speaker Thomas A. Sangma confirmed that out of the total session days, three days have been allocated to Private Members’ Business, while the remaining seven days will be dedicated to Government Business.

The BAC meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong; Leader of the Opposition Mukul Sangma; legislators Charles Pyngrope and Lahkmen Rymbui and senior government officials.

According to the calendar finalized by the Business Advisory Committee (BAC), the opening day of the budget session will begin with the address by the Governor.

Sangma said although private members’ time will be limited to three days, all participants will be given sufficient time to participate in the discussions.

“If needed, we can extend the session, even on Friday, to accommodate debates,” he added.

On March 3 and March 5, the members of the House will debate on the Governor’s address followed by the reply of the chief minister.

On March 4, 6 and 11, there will be private members’ business where bills, motions, and resolutions could be tabled.
