Shillong: The Voice of the People Party (VPP) in Meghalaya has formally lodged a complaint against the headman of Mawlai Mawdatbaki for rejecting the request to issue a no-objection certificate (NOC) for a public meeting planned at Mawlai Nongmali.
In his complaint submitted to the District Election Officer of East Khasi Hills, VPP candidate Denzil R Chen stated that the rejection directly contravened an official directive—Order No. DCA.56/2024/Pt./3 dated January 30, 2025—issued by the Deputy Secretary of the Meghalaya Government’s District Council Affairs Department.
“I request that necessary actions be taken by this evening; otherwise, I will be forced to pursue immediate action and bring the matter before the appropriate authorities for the resolution of my grievances,” Chen further stated.
The Mawlai Mawdatbaki Dorbar Shnong had informed Chen that permission would not be granted for the public meeting at Mawlai Nongmali on February 6.

On February 4, BR Kharmujai, headman of Mawlai Mawdatbaki, wrote to the VPP, explaining that the Executive Committee had convened on January 28 and decided to approve only a “common platform” for political events.
According to Kharmujai, this common platform would offer equal opportunities for all candidates, ensuring that the Dorbar Shnong remains impartial.
Kharmujai emphasised that the decision to hold a common platform was made to prevent public inconvenience, as had occurred in the past when individual public meetings were allowed.
