Barrackpore (WB): The body of a second-year student of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital was found hanging in a room of her quarters here, a police officer said on Monday.
Ivy Prasad resided at the quarters of the Kamarhati ESI Hospital, where her mother is a doctor, he said.
An unnatural death case has been registered at Kamarhati police station of Barrackpore police commissionerate, and investigation is underway, he said.
Barrackpore Police Commissionerate DC (North) Ganesh Biswas stated that an investigation has been launched and all possible angles are being explored.
The deceased was a second-year MBBS student at RG Kar Medical College, residing with her mother, who works as a doctor at the local ESI hospital.
The circumstances of her death remain unclear, with authorities yet to determine whether it was a suicide or foul play.

According to police sources, the student had spoken to her mother on the phone shortly before her body was discovered.
After a preliminary investigation, it was revealed that she was alone in her room at the time. Her mother, unable to answer her daughter’s call for an unknown reason, tried reaching her multiple times but failed to get through.
Growing concerned, she went to her daughter’s room, where she found the student hanging. At the time of the incident, the student’s father was away in Mumbai for work.
