Nagaon: A joint operation in Assam‘s Nagaon district on Wednesday resulted in the arrest of three persons and the seizure of various animal body parts.
Police recovered tiger claws, canines, and bones, as well as an elephant tusk from their possession.
The individuals arrested for trafficking tiger and elephant parts were identified as Amar Hansey, Mahendra Borgrang, and Probin Sangma.
The joint operation was conducted by the eastern Assam Wildlife Division and Nagaon police.
Taking to X, Nagaon police wrote, “Wildlife crime won’t go unpunished Three accused namely Amar Hanse, Mohendra Borgrang, and Prabin Sangma were arrested in a joint operation by eastern Assam wildlife division and Nagaon police for trafficking tiger and elephant parts. Authorities seized the recovered parts.”

Acting on specific information, Sivasagar Police conducted an operation on Wednesday in the Baasbari area of the Bihubor tea estate under Nazira Police Station.
One person was apprehended and three pieces of elephant tusk were recovered from his possession.

An investigation has been launched to determine the source of the tusks and to identify any connections to illegal wildlife trafficking.
The arrested individual is being interrogated and legal proceedings have begun. Forest officials have also been notified and are assisting with the investigation.
