Guwahati: In a series of coordinated operations across Manipur, the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, and local law enforcement have successfully recovered a large cache of weapons and ammunition.

The joint efforts have led to the seizure of 35 firearms, ammunition, and various warlike stores across multiple districts, including Thoubal, Tengnoupal, Bishnupur, Churachandpur, Imphal West, Noney, Jiribam, and Kakching.

On January 19, based on specific intelligence, a joint operation in Bishnupur district resulted in the recovery of a modified sniper rifle, five 9mm pistols, two single-barrel rifles, grenades, and ammunition.

A follow-up operation on January 20 near the Khuga River and Dampi Ridge, located at the border of Bishnupur and Churachandpur districts, led to the seizure of additional weapons, including a 9mm submachine gun, a .303 rifle, and a grenade launcher.

The Assam Rifles, acting on intelligence reports of infiltration attempts along the Indo-Myanmar border on January 20, intercepted a suspected individual near Yangoupokpi in Tengnoupal district.

The apprehended individual was later identified as a cadre of the Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL).

In a separate operation in Noney district on the same day, a 9mm country-made pistol, grenades, and other warlike stores were recovered.

On January 23, joint operations led by Assam Rifles and Manipur Police resulted in the recovery of more weapons, including hand grenades, country-made rifles, and ammunition in Thoubal, Jiribam, and other districts.

Notably, two cadres of the KCP(PWG) were apprehended with firearms in the Thoubal area.

Further operations on January 24 and 25 resulted in the recovery of additional weapons, such as self-loading rifles, IEDs, and sniper rifles in Chandel, Imphal West, and Kakching districts.

The recovered weapons and ammunition, along with the arrested individuals, have been handed over to the Manipur Police for further investigation.

The success of these operations underscores the effective collaboration between the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, and local police forces in ensuring the region’s security and stability.
