Shillong: In an effort to transform education in Meghalaya, the North East Centre for Community Impact and Engagement (NE-CCIE) and Nurturing Minds, the student body of IIM Shillong, have launched a state-wide Maths Campaign aimed at demystifying mathematics and making it accessible and enjoyable for students.

This initiative seeks to foster analytical thinking and promote a more holistic approach to learning across the state.

As part of the campaign, a five-day Winter Workshop was conducted at Mawkasiang Umroh Presbyterian School and Quidotto Memorial SSA RCLP School—both of which were adopted by IIM Shillong last year.

The workshop, held from January 20 to 24, aimed to inspire young learners to explore education beyond the traditional textbook approach.

The workshop blended academics, arts, and life skills, encouraging students to embrace a more well-rounded education.

Participants engaged in environmental-themed art contests, innovative math games, hands-on science experiments, and learned important safety protocols.

These activities were designed to spark critical thinking, creativity, and adaptability in students.

In addition to academics, the workshop also emphasized physical and mental well-being, with sessions on yoga, sports, and dance to promote a balanced lifestyle.

The programme culminated in a vibrant cultural showcase at the IIM Shillong campus, where students demonstrated their newfound skills and creativity through performances that highlighted their confidence and talent.

Dr. Teidorlang Lyngdoh, Chair of NE-CCIE, commented, “This workshop is not just about education; it’s about empowering students to think critically and face challenges head-on. We aim to cultivate the changemakers of tomorrow who can positively impact their communities and beyond.”

A representative from Nurturing Minds added, “Education should equip students to tackle real-world challenges. Initiatives like the Maths Campaign lay the groundwork for developing curiosity, confidence, and excellence.”

The collaboration between IIM Shillong, NE-CCIE, and Nurturing Minds has set the stage for a brighter, more empowered future for Meghalaya’s youth, planting the seeds for transformative change in the region’s education system.
