Aizawl: Two prominent truck associations in Mizoram have decided to call off their protest against the deteriorating condition of a section of the Aizawl-Silchar National Highway, following assurances from the state government regarding immediate repair work.
The Mizoram Truck Owners’ Association (MTOA) and the Mizoram Truck Drivers’ Association (MTDA) issued a statement confirming the end of their strike at 6:30 pm on Friday.
The decision came after the government began work on fixing the numerous potholes along the heavily damaged Kawnpui-Khamrang stretch, which had been causing significant disruption to traffic.
The strike had started at 7 am on Thursday, with trucks that typically transport essential goods and construction materials halting operations due to the unsafe road conditions.
The statement from the associations mentioned that the government had assured truckers that repairs would be extended to the entire affected section of the National Highway-306/06 (the Aizawl-Silchar road), a crucial route linking Mizoram with Assam.

This section of the highway, stretching from Sairang/Khamrang near Aizawl to Vairengte near the Assam border, had suffered extensive damage due to heavy rainfall last year, making it increasingly difficult for vehicles to pass.
In response to the growing concerns, Public Works Department (PWD) officials have emphasized that repair work is being carried out on an urgent and prioritized basis to restore the road to a safe and functional condition.
