Imphal: The 7th session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly is scheduled to commence on February 10.
The decision was made during a Cabinet meeting held on Wednesday in Tamenglong district.
The Cabinet meeting resolved to table the draft Manipur Tenancy Bill 2025 in the forthcoming Assembly session.
Chief Minister N. Biren Singh announced the development on X, stating, “Commencement of the 7th Session of the Twelfth Manipur Legislative Assembly from February 10, 2025. Additionally, the Draft Manipur Tenancy Bill, 2025, has also been approved.”
The implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban 2.0 and the Comprehensive City Mobility Plan for Imphal and Thoubal, aimed at urban development and enhanced mobility in the region, were also discussed during the meeting.
The cabinet meeting was attended by the Chief Minister, members of the ministerial team, MLAs, senior officials, and police personnel, underscoring the government’s efforts to address state priorities and legislative matters.
Since the outbreak of ethnic violence in Manipur on May 3, 2023, ten tribal legislators, including seven BJP MLAs and two from the Kuki People’s Alliance, have boycotted Assembly sessions while demanding a separate administration or Union Territory for tribals in the state.
Among them are two ministers, Letpao Haokip and Nemcha Kipgen, who have refrained from attending Cabinet meetings or visiting the state capital due to security concerns.
Despite their absence, no action has yet been taken by the ruling BJP against the party’s seven tribal MLAs.
The Cabinet meeting decided to approach the Department of Economic Affairs and New Development Bank to extend the loan period of the Manipur Water Supply Project till June 2, 2026.
The Manipur Water Supply Project was launched on June 3, 2020, after a trilateral agreement was signed among the State Government, Central government and the NDB.

The Cabinet also approved the enforcement of the Manipur Money Lenders Act 2024.
Notably, the sixth session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly was adjourned sine die on August 12, 2024, before the Governor prorogued the same session on August 29.
