Shillong: The Meghalaya Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has unveiled its first list of candidates for the upcoming Khasi and Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Councils (KHADC and JHADC) elections.
The party has named 17 candidates in the initial list, with 14 candidates for the KHADC and 3 for the JHADC.
BJP State General Secretary Wankitbok Pohshna confirmed that the second list of candidates will be announced soon, noting that the party is focusing on several key seats in Ri-Bhoi, East Jaintia Hills, South West Khasi Hills, and Shillong city.
“This is the first time the party is fielding such a significant number of candidates for the district councils. We are confident that our participation will help strengthen the foundation of the councils and that the people will support our candidates,” Pohshna stated.
The BJP is also preparing to release its manifesto in the coming days, with a focus on bolstering the powers and functions of the district councils.

The KHADC candidates in the first list include Himanta Timung (Jirang), Manin Raja (Nongpoh), Hopingstone Marsharing (Mawhati), Brightstarfield Khongwir (Umsning), Councellor Mukhim (Mawkynrew), Elvisstar Kharbudon (Langkyrdem Laitkroh), Ebren Khongthah (Nongshken), Fairlock D Ryngksai (Nongthymmai), Kynsaibor Lyngdoh (Malki Laitumkhrah), Daniella Nonglait (Mawlai), Lewis Janong Sooting (Langrin), Dimandar Lyngdoh (Nongstoin), Dominic Wahlang (Rambrai Jyrngam), and Roland Mawsor (Mawshynrut).
For the JHADC, the candidates are Heimonmitre Phawa (Jowai South), Manbha Lyngdoh (Muthlong Sohkympor), and Shanbor Rymbai (Musniang Rangad).
