Cooch Behar: The Border Security Force (BSF) troops stationed on the Indo-Bangladesh border were attacked by a group of Bangladeshi smugglers on January 20, while attempting to stop the smuggling of contraband.

The incident occurred when BSF personnel observed suspicious activity near the border fencing, with a large number of miscreants from Bangladesh attempting to smuggle items into India with the help of local associates.

When the BSF troops challenged the smugglers to halt and return to Bangladesh, the miscreants ignored repeated verbal warnings and adopted an aggressive stance.

They began pelting stones at the BSF personnel, injuring one jawan seriously in the head. The injured soldier was evacuated to a BSF hospital for medical treatment.

In the aftermath, the troops conducted a search and seized 50 bottles of prohibited contraband items, successfully thwarting the smugglers’ attempt.

This attack underscores the vulnerability of the border and the increasing activities of cross-border criminals.

Meanwhile, Sanjay Gaur, the Inspector General (IG) of BSF’s Guwahati Frontier, visited the Sector HQ in Dhubri and several Border Out Posts along the riverine areas of the Brahmaputra River in South Salmara Mankachar district, Assam.

During his visit, he reviewed the current security situation, operational preparedness, and measures to combat challenges along the border.

IG Gaur was briefed by the unit Commandants about the operational readiness and strategies to control trans-border crime.

He also interacted with BSF officers and troops, praising their relentless efforts in guarding the border despite challenging climatic conditions.

The IG commended the BSF personnel for their dedication and tireless efforts to safeguard the Indo-Bangladesh border from criminal activities.
