Gangtok: Sikkim Education Minister Raju Basnet launched an 11-day educational exposure tour for thirty-six State and Commendation Awardee teachers at the SNT Complex on Monday.
Organised by the Education Department of Sikkim, the tour will provide these teachers with valuable exposure to the teaching practices in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, aiming to enhance their professional development.
Before the journey commenced, Basnet addressed the teachers, offering his best wishes for a successful trip.
He expressed confidence that the tour would play a key role in strengthening the state’s education system and highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to improve the skills and knowledge of its educators.
Accompanied by their spouses, the teachers will visit both rural and urban schools in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, where they will observe different teaching methods, engage in idea-sharing with local educators, and explore regional educational and cultural practices.
The program, which was first introduced by Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on Teachers’ Day in September 2022, is designed to broaden teachers’ perspectives.

While State and Commendation Awardee teachers participate in national exposure tours, recipients of the National Award are given opportunities for international tours.
The flag-off ceremony was attended by several key officials, including Sonam Denzongpa, Principal Director of School Education; Tashi Chophel, Secretary of School Education; Tsheringkee Chingapa, Director of School Education and Planning; along with other senior members of the Education Department.
