Guwahati: Modern English School Kahilipara student, Abhigyan Basumatary has won the best actor award (National) at the National Science Drama Festival 2024-25, held in New Delhi.
Modern English School is the only school representing Guwahati and the state among 10 prestigious schools from across the country.
Abhigyan had previously won the State and Zonal Best Actor Award at the National Science Drama Competition 2024-25, held in Guwahati in November 2024.
This programme aims to encourage students, teachers, and other science communicators to explore and experiment with the dramatic form as a means of science communication.
The ‘Science Drama Competition’ is thus an excellent platform not only for showcasing artistic creativity but also for using the medium of drama as a potent tool for dealing with socio-scientific issues of current importance in our society.

Yesterday, after the prize distribution ceremony, my team and I reflected on our accomplishments, reminiscent of our stellar performance in 2013 in Mumbai. That year, Arnab Saikia, our talented student, won the Best Actor award at the state, zonal, and national levels,” said Rajib Kro, Actor and Director and National Flim Awardee.
“The play, scripted by Mr. Prutul Kr. Sarma and directed by me, marked a milestone in our journey. As a drama teacher at Modern English School, Kahilipara, Guwahati, I take pride in being associated with science drama for two decades, nurturing talent and fostering creativity consistently for 20 years,” he said.
