Agartala: Tripura Lok Sabha MP and former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has said that initiatives have been taken to resume regional flight services, including flights from Agartala to Shillong and Aizawl.
While addressing the airport advisory committee at Agartala MBB Airport, Deb said Agartala had flight service to Shillong and Aizawl but was suspended a few months ago.
Agartala has direct flights with Guwahati and Dibrugarh and connected service with Imphal and Dimapur.
“I chair meetings every six months to review the facilities at the airport, address issues faced by customers and passengers, and discuss these matters with Airport Directors, Police, CISF, Airlines officials, and other stakeholders,” said Deb.
“We mainly focus on identifying problems and finding solutions. Issues that can be resolved on the spot are addressed immediately, while others are taken up with the Government of India for further action,” he added.
He said the northeast benefited from the regional connectivity scheme after Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister.
He added that during the meeting, officials emphasized increasing the number of flights from Delhi to Agartala and ensuring that passengers have access to all the facilities.
“While flights between Agartala and Aizawl, as well as Agartala and Shillong, were previously operational, they were later discontinued. Recognizing our capacity to support these routes, we are now taking steps to reinstate them, and are also working towards establishing a direct flight from Agartala to Delhi,” Deb said.
Deb highlighted that Prime Minister Modi’s leadership over the past decade has resulted in enhanced connectivity across the Northeast.

“Railways and airways now connect the capitals of all northeastern states and key towns. Moreover, there has been a substantial improvement in communication infrastructure – roads, railways, airways, and internet connectivity have expanded significantly, linking all major cities with every state in the region,” he said.
