Agartala: Four Bangladeshi nationals were apprehended in Tripura’s Khowai district for allegedly entering India without valid travel documents, the police said on Saturday.
An Indian national was also detained for aiding their unauthorised entry.
Acting on a tip-off, the police intercepted the group near Teliamura railway station on Friday night.
Sub-Inspector Kamalendu Dhar, speaking to a news agency, stated, “During preliminary investigation, the Bangladeshi nationals revealed that they hailed from Moulvibazar district and had plans to travel to Dharmanagar in North Tripura district in search of work. As they lacked valid documentation for entry into Indian territory, they were promptly arrested.”
The arrested individuals have been identified as Moinuddin Miah, Rimon Miah, Rahim Ahmed, and Suman Miah, all residents of Bangladesh.
An Indian national, Aamir Uddin from Dharmanagar, was also taken into custody for allegedly facilitating the illegal entry of the foreign nationals.
Police have sought a three-day remand to further interrogate the accused and uncover details regarding their entry and intended activities.
