Guwahati: Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya has summoned the Budget Session 2025 of the Assam Legislative Assembly on February 17.
An official notification in this regard was issued by Dulal Pegu, Secretary of the Assam Legislative Assembly Secretariat, on Thursday.
The first day of the session will be held at the BTC Legislative Assembly Chamber in Kokrajhar.
This will be a historic shift from its customary meeting location in Dispur, as this is the first time that the state Assembly will meet on the first day of a session outside the state capital.
Following the formation of Meghalaya as a separate state in 1972, the Assam government relocated the state capital to Dispur in Guwahati. The inaugural session of the Assam Legislative Assembly convened at the temporary capital in Dispur on March 16, 1973. Since then, all legislative sessions have been held in Dispur.
Notably, the Assam Legislative Assembly came into being on the day of its first sitting on April 7, 1937, in the Assembly Chamber at Shillong, the erstwhile capital of the composite state of Assam.
The Budget Session 2025 will start with the Governor’s speech on February 17.
However, the notification issued by the secretary of the Assam Legislative Assembly Secretariat states that the remaining days of the session will be held at the Assam Legislative Assembly Chamber at Dispur.

The session is expected to be crucial, with discussions focused on key policy and developmental issues.
