Guwahati: The first phase of Gunotsav 2025, an initiative aimed at ensuring quality education, concluded successfully on Thursday.

Held from January 6 to 9 across 11 districts of Assam—Barpeta, Bajali, Sribhumi, Kamrup, Karbi Anglong, Kokrajhar, Lakhimpur, Nagaon, Sivasagar, South Salmara-Mankachar, and Udalguri—the program assessed the performance of over 1.33 million students from Classes I to IX in 15,072 schools.

These included government and provincialised schools, as well as Adarsha Vidyalayas, Tea Garden Model Schools, Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Avasiya Vidyalayas, and Tea Garden Management Schools.

A team of 16,160 external evaluators, comprising IAS, IPS, and other senior officials, conducted the evaluations, focusing on students’ scholastic abilities in areas like reading, writing, and numeracy, along with co-scholastic and infrastructural aspects of the schools.

The process also involved extensive community engagement, with evaluators interacting with students, teachers, parents, and local communities.

The initiative saw active participation from prominent leaders, including Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu, who visited schools in Lakhimpur district alongside MP Pradan Baruah.

Minister Urkhao Gwra Brahma, Sports and Power Minister Nandita Gorlosa, and other dignitaries such as Chandra Mohan Patowary and Katiram Boro also visited various districts, engaging with stakeholders and reinforcing the government’s commitment to improving education.

The assessments revealed valuable insights into the state’s educational infrastructure and student learning outcomes, setting the stage for actionable reforms.

As part of the external evaluation process, schools were also evaluated on infrastructure, community participation, and other critical areas that contribute to holistic development.

Looking ahead, the second phase of Gunotsav 2025 is scheduled to take place from January 17 to 22, covering 14 districts, including Baksa, Charaideo, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Golaghat, and Kamrup Metro.

Approximately 14.15 lakh students across 15,663 schools will be evaluated during this phase, with over 6,200 external evaluators expected to participate.

The self-evaluation process is slated for January 17, with external evaluations from January 20 to 22.

Gunotsav 2025 underscores the Assam government’s dedication to elevating educational standards across the state.

By engaging diverse stakeholders and focusing on comprehensive assessments, the program aims to bridge gaps and ensure that every student receives quality education.
