Agartala: The Jatrapur police in Tripura recently destroyed over 40,000 ganja (cannabis) plants in the South Nidaya Manaititta area.

This operation, conducted in a remote, densely forested region, is part of the state’s ongoing efforts to combat the rampant production and trade of illicit drugs that have been severely impacting local communities, particularly youth.

The South Nidaya Manaititta area, known for its rugged terrain and dense forest cover, has long been a hotspot for illegal drug cultivation.

The ganja plants were destroyed in different plots following a destruction operation led by officers and staff of the Jatrapur police station, in collaboration with the Tripura State Rifles (TSR).

The destruction of ganja plants signifies a major victory for law enforcement agencies in Tripura.

The illicit cultivation of ganja in the state’s hilly and inaccessible areas has posed a significant challenge for local authorities.

Acting on a tip-off, Jatrapur police conducted a well-coordinated raid in the area. This operation led to the discovery of a large-scale cannabis plantation spanning several acres, containing over 40,000 fully-grown ganja plants.

The ganja plants, cultivated covertly by local cultivators, had reached maturity, with many ready for harvesting. During the raid, police not only destroyed the plants but also dismantled makeshift huts and temporary shelters used by those involved in the illegal cultivation.
