Shillong: A pregnant woman has tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday in Meghalaya.
The health department officials said woman, who is in an advanced stage of pregnancy, recently returned to Shillong from Delhi along with her husband.
The couple has been placed under institutional quarantine, the health department official said.
The state’s tally of Covid19 positive cases during the last one week has climbed to 44, the state health department officials said.
The pregnant woman has been admitted to the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) on Tuesday night and she tested positive.
“One high risk contact of a positive patient has tested positive for COVID19 in Shillong. Person is under medical supervision,” Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma tweeted.
The state health department has alerted all the districts in Meghalaya with the sudden rise in the number of Covid19 cases.
Of the 44 cases, 30 are active, while 13 persons have recovered and one has died, the officials said.
Aman War, the Director of Health Services of Meghalaya said a village in Ri-Bhoi district, where a 72- year-old man had tested positive for COVID-19, has been declared a containment zone.
War said 13 people from the village and 16 others in East Khasi Hills district are considered as high-risk contacts of the 72-year-old COVID-19 patient.
