Itanagar: A 22-year-old man was critically injured after being attacked by a wild elephant in the state’s Banderdewa circle on Monday afternoon, officials said.
The incident occurred around 2:30 pm when Chukhu Obi, a resident of Dobam village, went into the forest to check on his Mithuns (a type of cattle).
While in the forest, he was charged by a tuskless male elephant.
Upon receiving news of the attack, a rescue team, led by the officer-in-charge of Banderdewa Police Station, Kipa Hamak, along with local residents, rushed to the scene.
The injured man was successfully rescued from the forest and promptly transported to the Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) for medical treatment.
In response to the incident, Naharlagun Superintendent of Police Mihin Gambo urged the public to exercise caution when venturing into forested areas, given the ongoing threat of wild animal attacks.
