Barpeta District Commissioner (DC) Rohan Kumar Jha on Tuesday inspected the site of a recent road accident near Howly Town and proposed an action plan to prevent similar mishaps in the future.
Accompanied by Additional District Commissioner Jayanta Bora, Additional Superintendent of Police, the District Transport Officer, and other officials, DC Jha assessed the accident site where a vehicle had skidded off the road, hit the divider, and collided with trees and other objects.
Jha emphasized the urgent need for safety measures at accident-prone areas.
He recommended the installation of blinkers and reflectors, particularly at dangerous stretches, and suggested placing rumble strips near divider openings.
He also stressed repainting turn signages for better visibility and highlighting sharp turns with special markings.
“Bright paint should be used to mark upright objects like trees on dividers to ensure they are visible to drivers, especially at night,” DC Jha said.
Officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), who were present during the inspection, assured the DC that they would implement the suggested measures promptly and complete the work within a day.
With the winter season bringing increased fog and reduced visibility, DC Jha also cautioned drivers against speeding on highways, warning that it could lead to loss of control over vehicles.
The proposed measures aim to enhance road safety and minimize accidents, particularly during the foggy winter months when the risk of mishaps is significantly higher.
